Spyder Movie Review

Cast : Mahesh Babu, Surya S.J., Rakul Preet Singh

Director : AR Murugadoss

AR Murugadoss’s latest bilingual film Spyder, starring Mahesh Babu and SJ Suryah, explores the concept of how vulnerable  major cities are when a deranged mind wants to wreak havoc.

In the past, Murugadoss had focused on contemporary issues like farmer suicides, sleeper cells of terrorists; and now, with Spyder, he gives us a taste of what cell-phone tapping is like and how one such intelligent officer uses it to do good for the society.

The film narrates the story of Shiva, an intelligence bureau officer who taps into people’s calls and comes to their rescue, if they are in need. One day, he is stunned when he is not able to help couple of people, and that sends him on a wild goose chase to find a psycho, who is behind multiple killings.

Truth be told, there hasn’t been film like Spyder in recent times, especially  in Telugu, which is true to the genre. Right from the word go, Murugadoss makes it evident that the characters in the film are too focused and he doesn’t let go off his foot from the gas pedal till the end. Spyder is a serious action thriller.

Mahesh Babu and SJ Suryah are brilliant in their respective roles, and their conversations and confrontation is the core strength of the film. Full credit to Murugadoss for coming up with a smartly written and well-directed film. Two big thumbs up. Go watch it.
